Welcome to our new Employee Spotlight Series! Each week, we will introduce you to one of our employees so you can learn more about what goes on behind-the-scenes. Today, we’re talking to Richard Marques, Revcontent’s Chief Marketing Officer. We asked Richard a little bit about what his day-to-day entails and some of the challenges he faces in this role.
What does a typical day look like for a Chief Marketing Officer?
As cliche as it sounds – it’s always challenging to answer what a “typical” day looks like. Being at the forefront of an industry that is defined by innovation and adapting to “change”, we’re always spending our time taking on new challenges and communicating internally on how to best serve our users in clients in a way that can benefit the entire open web ecosystem. Generally speaking, I spend my day to day leading the charge with our demand side team to drive new traffic acquisition for our advertising partners. Our developer teams are always coming up with innovative new solutions for our partners and sales teams and it’s important to keep communication very transparent so we can always be one step ahead of our competitors and any trends we foresee happening within the space
How does your job benefit your target audience?
As one of the first employees at Revcontent, I’ve always been very in tune with our technology and how it affects our clients and end users who engage with our content on our publisher partner sites. My job keeps the different teams aligned with one another so we can remain unified toward our mission of opening up the web and distribution of information, thought leadership and free speech.
Are there any major projects or events that you are looking forward to in the upcoming months?
I will be in Barcelona with our sales team for Affiliate World in July – I’m really excited to get together with our clients to break bread and talk strategy. A lot has happened in this industry in the last 6 months or so and there will be a lot of exciting conversation to be had while we’re out there
We’re working on some game changing tech that I can’t really talk about – but I can say our advertisers should be very excited to log in to Revcontent come sometime early Fall
What is the most rewarding or challenging aspect of your role?
The most rewarding aspect is being part of something that will have such a profound impact on the way society communicates and shares information. The thought of a single platform or handful of companies controlling what stories and content you do and don’t see is a terrifying concept that we know firsthand can be detrimental to humanity.
Being on the internet all day is a challenge. The way social media has created echo chambers of polarization and negativity constantly reminds me how truly cruel people can be. Sometimes you do need to take a step back and realize how much good is happening in the world, but trolls are a harsh reality that I have front row access to every day no matter how hard I try to ignore them
